DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Feb. 7 (PIA) -- Around 90% of COVID-related deaths in Negros Oriental involve individuals who are unvaccinated.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer and Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Incident Ground Commander Dr. Liland Estacion disclosed this in her virtual press conference on Feb. 4 where she announced that the death toll of COVID-19 in the province is at 693.
Estacion said 10% of the deaths involve persons who are vaccinated against the virus, but their cause of death was associated with co-morbidities such as hypertension, cancer, diabetes, heart failure, or kidney disease.
On the same day, 11 individuals were added to the province’s previous death toll which is 682.
Of the latest mortalities, three are from Bais City, three from Dumaguete City, two in Tanjay City, and one each in Pamplona, Sibulan, and Tayasan towns.
Based on the data shared at the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental Facebook page, seven of the new mortalities were unvaccinated while two were fully vaccinated, and the remaining two have unknown vaccination status.
With this, Estacion encouraged those who are not yet vaccinated to get inoculated as the benefits of getting vaccinated outweigh the minor adverse effects of the vaccine.
She also revealed that the province has reached 48.0% accomplishment of its vaccination rollout as of Feb. 3.
Estacion said for the A2 category, the number of persons who have taken their complete doses of the vaccine is at 52,088 or 33.21% of its target which is 156, 828.
The health official also reported that Negros Oriental logged 528 new COVID-19 cases based on the latest batch of swab test results that were received by the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) covering Feb. 1-3.
The new cases were reported in Basay (16), Bayawan City (41), Sta.
