DTI Antique holds FDA license consultancy for manufacturers

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique held a one-to-one consultancy on Food and Drug Administration (FDA) License to Operate (LTO) application for local food manufacturers, June 10, at ANSTEC Building, here.

DTI Antique recognized the need for micro enterprises to avail of a license to operate from the FDA to guarantee business growth and market expansion in the future and as a prerequisite in applying for a Certificate of Product Registration (CPR).

Supervising Trade-Industry Specialist Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal said that consumers are more conscious now of the products they purchase and tend to prefer those with FDA approval.

She added that an LTO and CPR will be beneficial among local food manufacturers who wish to penetrate larger markets as more grocery shops limit their store spaces to products and enterprises accredited by the FDA.

“If you seek a better market, you need to strive to have your products registered,” Cardinal noted.

DTI food consultant and the event’s resource person Johanna Jamero emphasized that both the LTO and CPR increase the credibility of products and indicate food safety and ethical practice in business operations.

Jamero also urged the participating micro enterprises, both online and onsite, to secure readiness of the manpower, machines, materials, and methods (4Ms) in preparation for their FDA application.

The food consultant then highlighted the responsibility of food manufacturers to maintain product quality and ensure consumer safety.

Meanwhile, local cooperative officer and event participant Liza Diana said that their meat products enterprise will continue with its planned FDA LTO application despite the complexity of the process, noting that the license from the FDA will create more opportunities for them.

Among the participants in the event are Nasuli-C, Iba, Casay, San Francisco (NICS) Multi-purpose Cooperative, BCTSO or Bulalacao, Calooy, Tula-tula Sikap Organization, John’s Health Products, San Jose LGU Shared Service Facility (SSF) on Food Processing and Toll Packaging, and San Pedro National High School Shared Service Facility on Food Processing.
