DTI Antique gears MSMEs with ways to boost productivity

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique held a learning session on productivity improvement for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME), July 13, at ANSTEC Building, here.

DTI Antique recognizes the need to gear small business operators and cooperatives with methods to boost productivity in business operations as market competition grows intense amid the reopening of the economy after the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.

MSMEs are urged to redesign their strategies to cope with current market demands that would guarantee competitiveness and survival, in the long run.

DTI Antique Business Consultant Engr. Alberto Troncoso served as the resource person for the event, where he presented several factors that affect productivity.

He underscored the importance of establishing a positive work environment, providing for dynamic workplace ergonomics, and promoting employee engagement.

Troncoso said that any workforce can perform better under harmonious and non-toxic working atmospheres and when provided with the necessary tools and equipment that enable them to work comfortably and safely.

He also cited the advantages of having motivated human resources by means of fair compensation, promotion, rewards, incentives, bonuses, or a simple acknowledgment and noted that the productivity and efficiency of business enterprises lie on the effectiveness of the top management as visionaries and leaders.

Other factors that influence productivity include workforce upskilling through training and seminars, the observance of procedure manuals, clear salary structure, health and well-being promotion, and the use of technologies.

Event participant and teacher Restie Maza from Col. Ruperto Abellon National School (CRANS), the location of a Shared Service Facility (SSF) in baking, said that the learning session by DTI Antique enabled him to identify ways to improve business operations in their SSF.

He also expressed eagerness to share his learnings from the event with the students

of CRANS, especially the technical-vocational learners whom he said would benefit from this cascade of knowledge.

Apart from the limited participants on-site, other attendees to the productivity learning session were present via Zoom. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
