Senators Go, Padilla lead DSWD cash aid distribution

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Senators Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Robinhood Padilla, with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), led the distribution of various cash and livelihood assistance, August 12, in Iloilo.

A total of 1,448 families from the seven municipalities of the first district of Iloilo received P5,000 cash each under the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program – Livelihood Assistance Grant (SLP-LAG) as additional financial capital for their existing livelihood. The event was held in Guimbal, Iloilo.

The beneficiaries were micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), transport service providers, 4Ps participants, senior citizens, and solo parents whose livelihoods were affected by the pandemic and recent calamities.

In his message, Senator Go noted that the said program was a joint initiative of the Office of Iloilo first district Representative Janette Loreto-Garin and his office to provide aid through the said Agency.

“Ang SLP-LAG ay isang livelihood assistance na kung saan bibigyan po

kayo ng puhunan, tuturoan kayo na magnegosyo, at kung paano palalaguin ito (SLP-LAG is a livelihood assistance that provides you the capital to start your own livelihood, teach you how to do it and make your business grow),” he said.

He also encouraged the beneficiaries to sustain their livelihood in order to gain and support their families.

“Kapag lumago ang inyong negosyo, dalhin niyo po sa inyong pamilya ang inyong kita. Huwag niyo munang gamitin sa pagbili ng alak, ibili niyo muna ng pagkain. Importante ngayon malampasan muna natin ang krisis na dulot ng COVID-19 (If your business grow, bring your profit to your family. Don’t use them to buy liquor, instead buy food for your family. For now, it is important for us to get through the crisis brought by COVID-19),” Go added.

On the other hand, Senator Padilla assures Ilonggos of their continued support as their voices in the Senate.

On the same day, the two senators also graced the distribution of Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) cash aids to 500 beneficiaries in San Joaquin town.

Go lauded the efforts of the DSWD Field Office 6 led by OIC regional director Delia Bagolcol for facilitating the distribution of the said cash grants that will be benefitted by the people.

He also mentioned that the said DSWD assistance is also available in Malasakit Centers across the country, four of which in Iloilo, for indigent patients seeking for medical assistance.

Other than that, they also distributed grocery packs, bicycles, mobile tablets for students, and shoes among others to the constituents of the Iloilo 1st district. (JBG/FRG/PIA6)
