DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, March 20 (PIA) -- The All Advocates of Sustainable and Green Charcoal together with the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NOCCI) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the country’s 2nd Bana Grass Charcoal Facility on March 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Brgy. Gomentoc, Ayungon town.
NOCCI Chair of Climate Change Committee Luis Ramilo said this activity opens the Negros Oriental’s First Production Facility of Bana Grass Charcoal as the upshot of NOCCI’s advocacy towards a more sustainable and a greener Negros Island amid the worsening global climate crisis.
NOCCI advocated and championed the country’s first Provincial Renewable Energy Tax Incentive Ordinance which was enacted into law by the province on Jan. 22, 2022, said Ramilo.
Bana grass is a type of plant that grows quickly and is easy to plant, making it an alternative to traditional coal.
The Green Charcoal Plant is a type of facility used for processing bana grass to produce “green coal.” (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
