CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--In line with the celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), in collaboration with Gender Advocates of Region 10, held a women’s summit at the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines, March 27, where a total of 1,200 beneficiaries received P3,000 in cash assistance from the government.
People with disabilities, drug surrenderees, pregnant women, and the mothers of City Scholars from 80 barangays in the city are among the people got the cash aid through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
"Women’s month is all about remembering nganong nagsugod ta ani nga celebration; it's all about continuing sa pag tawag sa atong gobyerno ug tanan private companies and individuals to continue promoting and protecting women’s rights," said PCW Executive Director Lawyer Kristine Rosary E. Yuzon-Chaves.

Partners in the celebration are the Department of Agriculture-10, City Health Office, Bureau of Treasury, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Information Communication and Technology, Women and Children Protection Unit of Northern Mindanao Medical Center, and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority in Region 10.
The Women’s Summit offered legal and medical services to the beneficiaries and provided nine breakout sessions where beneficiaries could expand their knowledge and cultivate new sources of income.
"Pasalamaton kaayo kay natagaan mi ug privilege aron makadawat ug cash assistance, hinaot pa nga mapadayon ni sa sunod nga katuigan aron daghan ilang matabangan," Joan Sablada, a housewife from Barangay Taglimao, said.

Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Imee Moreno also stated that the local government unit will continue to encourage future programs that will assist women in taking care of themselves and mitigating their burdens towards their responsibilities. (GKND/PIA-10)
