ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 12 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office – IX led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Detention Tank 2, Water Treatment Facilities with Floodgate and Pumping Station 2 in barangay Zone IV, Zamboanga City on Tuesday.

This construction is part of the Long-Term Implementation Plan of the Proposed Flood Control Mitigating Measures. The construction of this Detention Tank which cost a total of P144.62 million is expected to cater flood water during heavy rains and will be pumped out to the sea thru a pumping station.

As part of the Build Better More Infrastructure Plan, this project will be a great addition to the growing economic activity of the city as the DPWH upholds its commitments to provide quality, safe and environment-friendly infrastructure facilities in accordance with the national development objectives.

Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe thanked the DPWH for the flood control project, as he assured that his administration will continuously complement the national government by appropriating funds for similar infrastructure projects.

The project will be carried out by Bendimil Construction and Development Corporation under the supervision of the DPWH and is expected to be completed by March 18, 2024. (NBE/CCP/PIA9 with reports and photos from DPWH9 and City Government of Zamboanga)
