DENR-9 culminates Earth Day celebration with song, art contest in Pagadian City

Pagadian City, 26 Apr (PIA) - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-9, together with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-9, successfully conducted series of activities marking the end of the celebration of Earth Day here with the theme "Invest in our Planet."

The culminating event featured an on-the-spot poster-making contest that high school students from Pagadian and Molave participated in.

Reah Aviona Agonoy, a senior high school student from Zamboanga del Sur National High School, emerged victorious and was awarded a cash prize of P5,000.00 for her artwork that conveyed and conceptualized the theme of the celebration.

The commemoration hoped to actively engage the youth in advocating education and raising awareness about the importance of safeguarding and conserving the planet Earth.

The event successfully took place at the Plaza Luz Covered Court in Pagadian City, culminating with the distribution of 7,759 seedlings of diverse varieties in their community panTree. The seedlings distributed, included the Golden Plant, Lumbayao, Kalunti, Almon, Santol, Tanguile, White Lauan, Falcata, Mangium, Mahogany, Red Nato, and Coffee. The public who were present at the event received the seedlings.

In addition to the seedling distribution, there were environmental booths and exhibits, and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials disseminated during the event. 

Moreover, the culminating event highlighted Cancion de Ambiente, a mini songwriting and singing competition, in which talented singers and musicians from Pagadian and Ipil participated.

Aradhel T. Bucoy from Pagadian City secured the championship with her song entitled "Binuhat."

Regional Director Alex Jimenez underscored in his message that it is the responsibility of everyone to contribute to the protection of the planet Earth.

“A little thing that we do in the protection of our planet Earth will have a long way to go in sustaining life for our future generations,” he added.

The culmination event of Earth Day organized by DENR IX was a fruitful endeavor in promoting environmental awareness and conserving the natural resources of the Earth. (RVC/EDT/HTB/PIA Zamboanga del Sur)
