Throngs of townspeople witness the momentous event attended by former DSWD Assistant Secretary Jade Jamolod representing Sen. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, who made the construction of the new public market a success together with Sen. Francis Tolentino; local officials, representatives from national government agencies, and other partners.
"This would not be possible without the initiative of the past administration. Our heartfelt gratitude to all who have extended help in making this dream come true for Salug," Mayor William Maribojoc said in his message during the turnover ceremony.
Salug town has been utilizing its old public market which was constructed in the late 1960s.
"Now, we are giving back to the Salugnons what is due for them. We hope that together, we can take very good care of this legacy for the years to come," he stressed.
For as low as P1,200 per month, market vendors can already rent a stall or space in the new public market.
Mayor Maribojoc explained the income from rentals of the public market will be used back for its maintenance.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jamolod delivered the message of Sen. Bong Go expressing support to the dedication and commitment of the LGU in bringing further development to the Salugnons.
"It is important that we support small business owners and patronize their products and services. Sen. Bong Go is encouraging all of us to do the same and support our local businesses," he said.
Although not present, "Kuya Bong Go" mascot is in the area to entertain and bring smile to the locals, who did not missed the opportunity to take some photos with him. (RVC/EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
