ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR, 28 Apr (PIA) – Zamboanga del Sur delegation emerged as the overall champion of the 2023 Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet, winning an impressive 123 gold medals.

Jeesrel Himang, the Provincial Information Officer (PIO), expressed his delight over the success of the ZamboSur athletes, lauding their exceptional performance in the competition.
The Department of Education's tally showed that Dipolog City took second place with 91 gold medals, while Zamboanga City secured third place with 71 gold medals.
The Zamboanga Sibugay delegation had to settle for fourth place with 28 gold medals, and the delegation from Pagadian City placed fifth with 23 gold medals. The Zamboanga del Norte delegation secured 19 gold medals, followed by Isabela with 8 and Dapitan City with 6.
Meanwhile, Shiela Apiag, Education Support Services Division (ESSD) Chief, disclosed that the victorious athletes would participate in the upcoming Cluster Meet in Cebu City in July. She urged the winning teams to begin training in their respective schools and sports clubs until the in-house training schedule is finalized.
Region IX is part of Cluster 4, which comprises Regions VI, VII, and VIII. The Cluster Meet winners will advance to compete in the Palarong Pambansa.
The athletes' success is a testament to the province's investment in sports facilities, training programs, and coaching staff. The governor's and congresswoman's support and encouragement further demonstrate the government's commitment to the province's young athletes.
