DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, May 11 (PIA) -- To continue the government’s engagement with communities, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) together with the provincial government of Negros Oriental will hold this year’s “Dagyaw” Open Government and Participatory Governance town hall meeting on June 14 at the Provincial Convention Center in Dumaguete City.
While this year’s Dagyaw expects to gather over 1,000 participants to tackle various programs and projects of the government in a multi-sectoral forum, a one-stop shop, whole-of-nation Serbisyo Caravan is also set up to provide free basic social services.
In a coordination meeting, the DILG is set to invite the participants coming from civil society organizations, local government units, national government agencies, non-government organizations, media and business sector in the province to participate in a public dialogue to address some issue and strengthen public participation in government.
Farah Gentuya, provincial director of DILG here, said the Serbisyo Caravan is a convergence of around 20 government agencies in the province and has been institutionalized to provide a one-stop-shop for various services needed by constituents in conflict-affected barangays.
The province’s Dagyaw is anchored on the episode theme “Panag-tigum sa mga Marites Kalambuan Alang sa Tanan."
It will also tackle women empowerment and gender equity to increase women’s opportunities in the barangays.
The DILG said the one-day event will also highlight the commitments and agreements between partner agencies and non-government organizations for the AMUMA Sa Barangay hub.
AMUMA, a Cebuano word which means to nourish or to take care of, is a program of DILG7 aimed to contribute to sustaining development-oriented local government and communities through the provision of technical assistance.
The Dagyaw team will also invite panelists from Cebu and different cooperatives, rural and government banks, and other financial institutions to provide inputs on funding or lending assistance to low-income families.
DILG has encouraged civil society organization representatives and other barangay officials to participate in the said activity. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
