LGU South Cotabato eyes creation of IT Park in Tupi

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- Preparations are underway for the establishment of an Information Technology (IT) Park in the municipality of Tupi.

Ted Villanueva, South Cotabato Economic and Investments Promotion Center (SCEIPC) chief revealed in a press briefer that the provincial government is already in close coordination with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) for guidance on the process of creating economic zones.

“We are on the process of submitting our documents and hopefully, this month of May we could already submit the documents and at the same time we are looking forward for the approval of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) board,” Villanueva said.

Once approved by PEZA,the documents will be forwarded to the Office of the President to be signed as a presidential proclamation, Villanueva said.

“Approximately, 8 months at most ang paghulat naton sa Presidential Proclamation,” he added.

Earlier this month, representatives from the PEZA visited Koronadal City to brief Local Economic and Investment Promotion Officers (LEIPOs) of the province’s different municipalities and city on national strategies they can implement in their locality.

The creation of economic zones is one of the strategies of the provincial government to entice more investors and spur economic development. (PIA 12)
