TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – The Cagayan United Doctors Medical Center (CUDMC), as one of the highlights of its month-long second anniversary celebration, will conduct the CUDMC Health Fair, which will be held at SM City Tuguegarao on June 4, 2023.

Dr. Mildred Ferrer-Banatao, CUDMC’s Medical Director, said that the Health Fair entrance is free and will exhibit various information to educate the public on what to do in case of an emergency like a stroke or seizure, or when one person is choking, and other information on how to take better care of one’s health.

"We want to educate the public on emergency measures; they can do pre-hospital, when the emergency happens at home or anywhere before the patient is brought to the hospital. We will also entertain them through our different interactive booths and inspire them to join CUDMC’s pool of experts and healthcare professionals," Dr. Banatao said.

She explained that there will be no consultations during the health fair, but mall-goers are free to roam and visit the different booths for information.

The ER/nursing booth will feature mini-lectures and short demonstrations on what to do during emergency situations during pre-hospital; the Laboratory Department will conduct free blood typing for the first 50 participants and advise them on how to properly fast before having blood works done.

CUDMC employees try to beat each other in a 60-second balloon blowing during the Iron Lung Challenge aims to test their lung functional capacity.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department will feature state-of-the-art machines used for imaging at the hospital, while  the Dietary Department will also conduct BMI and waist-hip ratio computation and interpretation, and teach healthy eating tips and dietary advice.

"There will be a lot of giveaways during the one-day health fair, and a chance to win raffle prizes as much as P2,000 worth of vouchers," she added.

Meanwhile, Administrative Chief Jonathan Barangan clarified that the CUDMC offers economical rates and services than other private hospitals in the region.

"We opened CUDMC during the height of the pandemic; some private hospitals, especially in Tuguegarao City, do not accept COVID patients, and we [CUDMC] opened our services to cater to those patients that needed high-quality care," he said.

"[The] CUDMC is the only hospital [the uses] hazmat suits for COVID-19, a suit that is a little bit pricey because we only use this suit once for the protection of our doctors and frontline health workers," Barangan added.

Barangan said that the month-long celebration, which started on May 5 with the theme, "United, One with You in Healthcare", included some physical challenges for the hospital staff, who call themselves “The Uniteds”, in ascertaining their commitment to their own health. Held last May 12, the Iron Lung and Treadmill Stress Test challenges were made open for the hospital employees to test their physical health, specifically, their lung functional capacity and cardiovascular health.

"We want our employees to become health-conscious too, to become true ambassadors of healthy living for our patient-clients. There is also an ongoing Biggest Loser Challenge, a weight-loss challenge, which will culminate this August," Barangan said.

He added that the Tricycle Sticker Day campaign conducted on May 16 to 17 at the CUDMC Pit Stop located at the hospital entrance driveway and various tricycle stations in Tuguegarao City, aimed to help tricycle drivers and operators plying the city combat the summer heat by offering refreshments, UV arm sleeves, and free blood pressure checks.
