TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, May 24 (PIA) --The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) here led by PDRRM Officer Dr. Anthony Damalerio and Governor’s Office Chief of Staff Atty. Filipina Asoy-Piollo representing PDRRMC chair Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting on May 24 in preparation for the threat of Super Typhoon Mawar.

During the meeting, agencies with mandates on disaster management reported their respective office' protocols in the aspect of preparedness and collectively agreed for a strengthened coordination and emphasized the importance of direct communication and swift information relay.

Leonard Samar of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) reported that as of 3:00 AM on Wednesday, May 24, Super Typhoon Mawar is located 2,215 km East of Visayas with 185/230kph maximum wind/gust.

According to PDRRM Officer Damalerio, the PDRRMO and Telephone and Radio System Integrated Emergency Response (TaRSIER) 117 is now readying to set up a 24/7 Emergency Operations Center linking all national, provincial and municipal government agencies for a province-wide preparedness and response mechanism.

It is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday late evening or Saturday early morning and will be named Typhoon Betty.

In Bohol, the super typhoon is forecast to bring a high to very high probability of 25mm rainfall and a 70% probability to exceed 50mm rainfall by May 28, 2023, when it is nearest Visayas.

A Gale warning is possible on Sunday through Tuesday with the weather outlook of moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas on these days.

The PDRRMC is on heightened alert and consistently monitoring for developments to map out mitigating and preparedness measures. (ECB/PIA7 Bohol)
