689 4Ps beneficiaries in Pagadian complete program, now self-sufficient

PAGADIAN CITY, 31 May (PIA) - A total of 689 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in this city recently graduated from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) program, successfully completing their journey towards self-sufficiency.

The 4Ps initiative, which aims to reduce poverty, provides grants to extremely impoverished households, focusing on improving their health, nutrition, and education.

Natividad Yator, a 48-year-old mother of three from Bulatok, Pagadian, expressed gratitude for the 4Ps program. Since joining in 2011, 4Ps supported her children's education from elementary to college. Today, her eldest daughter is a licensed Marine Engineer, while the other two are pursuing higher education. Natividad commended the program and pledged to continue assisting the City Link during Family Development Sessions (FDS), showing her commitment to giving back.

Another graduate, Kyla Kristel Taroroc from Lumbia, Pagadian, shared her journey as a beneficiary. Kyla's parents work as vendors in the market, and with their determination and the government's support, they were able to support her education. Now a registered social worker, Kyla is one of over 300 social workers hired as City/Municipal Links for the 4Ps program.

She expressed her gratitude for the empowerment she received from DSWD and sees her role as a way to empower others. "Sa una kami ang ginatabangan sa DSWD nga ma-empower. Karon kami na pud ang mag-empower sa uban. [This is] a way of giving back sa department og sa program sa serbisyo na akoang nadawat sa ilaha (At first, we are the ones that DSWD is helping to empower. Now it is our turn to empower others. [This is] a way of giving back to the department and the service program that I received from them),” she said.

During the graduation ceremony, Honorable Mayor Sammy Co pledged his support and provided 25-kilo-sack of rice, to each graduating household as a gesture of assistance for their sustainability. He also committed 60 million pesos to women's livelihood programs, emphasizing the importance of sustaining their improved well-being.

Several partner stakeholders from government agencies were also present and pledged their support to the graduating 4Ps households, ensuring the continuation of their enhanced standard of living. These commitments were made during the ceremony, which celebrated the beneficiaries' accomplishments and highlighted the ongoing dedication to their welfare and progress.
