Zambo City Mayor Dalipe rallies behind PBBM’s campaign vs smuggling

Zamboanga City (PIA) -- Mayor John Dalipe of Zamboanga City expressed support to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s campaign against smuggling activities during the rice distribution activity of forfeited goods today.

"We are very honored to have you here to personally inspect the 42,180 smuggled sacks of rice. We are one with you in this campaign against smuggling activities and hoarding of rice," Mayor Dalipe said.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Zamboanga City forfeited thousands of sacks of rice worth Php42 million after a raid on a warehouse in Barangay San Jose Gusu. These were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-9.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the National Food Authority (NFA)-9 warehouse, where the forfeited sacks of rice are temporarily stored. The President led the distribution of premium-quality rice to beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his speech during the rice distribution in Zamboanga City.

In his speech, the President assured Filipino citizens that they would have access to affordable rice and sufficient supply to prevent hunger.

"Dapat pagandahin ang produksyon ng ating magsasaka, may sapat na pagkain, at kailangan may presyo na kayang bilhin ng taong bayan. Iyan ang tinitiyak natin," President Marcos Jr said.

(The production of our farmers must be improved, there must be enough food, and there must be a price that the people can afford. That is what we ensure.)

Indigent families in the region will benefit from the forfeited sacks of Alas Jasmine Fragrant Rice to address rising market prices. The distribution to the neighboring provinces will be done in the succeeding days.

BOC Zamboanga City commits to continue to monitor and act on reports regarding smuggling in all forms in the Port of Zamboanga and ensure compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos’ marching order to go after hoarders and illegal importers of rice. (RVC/AB/CCP/PIA9)
