PIA National Capital Region (NCR) Chief Emver Cortez and Creative and Production Services Division (CPSD) Head Bradley De Leon highlighted the importance of responsible digital citizenship together with other representatives of ASEAN Member States in the ASEAN Forum on Tackling Disinformation.

This, as the international community continuously confronts challenges in fighting the prevalence of disinformation on the vast online space and the global availability of media platforms through which information can be consumed in an instantaneous manner.

Meanwhile, for his part, Viet Nam Vice Minister of Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam stressed the overarching need to foster a holistic collaboration among the concerned electronic information management agencies towards developing tangible solutions to combat the massive instances of fake news instead of dwelling on the salient features of policy interventions alone.

We have done many with tackling fake news. However, activities mainly focus on sharing policies and experiences between management agencies,” said the Vice Minister.

It is time for us to push for deeper cooperation among media management agencies that have the role of enhancing information, among media agencies who are involved in spreading official and positive information, detecting, publishing, and correcting fake news, among research agencies as independent research, verification organizations and social network providers to deal with the disinformation in the region,” he added.

Further, the ASEAN delegates were able to gain insight into the content moderation approaches of Google and TikTok to prevent the spread of disinformation on user feeds.

Among the best practices shared are the means of upholding eligibility standards to ensure the relevance of algorithms, disintegrating violative posts, and implementing an age restriction to certain contents for a more sensitive personalized media experience. (PIA-NCR)
