'Adlaw sang Ciudad de Iloilo' highlights Ilonggo talents

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The innate artistry of Ilonggos was once featured through visual art exhibits, music, and theater performance during the launching of Adlaw sang Ciudad de Iloilo 2023.

Bannered with the theme, Hugyaw: Adlaw ta ini mga Ilonggo, this event marked the prelude to Iloilo Arts Festival Month with the goal of making Iloilo City as an arts center in the country.

Mayor Jerry Treñas, who serves as the Chairman of the Iloilo City Local Culture and Arts Council (ICLCAC), cited the occasion as an epitome of unwavering dedication to bring art closer to the hearts of people.

“It is a testament to our commitment to support and celebrate the brilliant talents of local artists and their exceptional creations,” Treñas said.

Among those groups who participated were Teatro Tayo of West Visayas State University-College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts and Recreation (PESCAR), PCD School of Performing Arts, Cinematahum, Artivism: Kikik Collective, and United Architects of the Philippines - Iloilo and Madia-as Chapter.

Adlaw sang Ciudad de Iloilo is supported by the Iloilo City Government through the ICLCAC in partnership with private organizations.

ICLCAC will also be holding the competitions on Oct. 14, 2023 such as Singing Ilonggo Composition, Street Dance, Dance Sport, and Short and Sweet Play.

To note, Regulation Ordinance No. 2020-097 declared October 5 as “Adlaw sang Ciudad de Iloilo,” the Spanish translation of “Dakbanwa sang Iloilo,” which was the name given to Iloilo City when it was created. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
