ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Outstanding barangay tanods in the province of Guimaras were lauded for their key contributions as peacekeepers in their respective areas.

The provincial government of Guimaras led the awarding ceremony during the fourth quarter joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council on October 11, 2023.

This year's provincial champion for the 1st-3rd class municipality category were the tanods of Barangay Salvacion, Buenavista town.

To note, the nominees were evaluated based on the following criteria: legal basis for the organization of the barangay tanod, organization and functional structure, logistical and financial support, trainings, support facilities and equipment as well as accomplishments.

Moreover, they were assessed by the Provincial Management Coordinating Committee, composed of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG- Guimaras) as chair, with the membership of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/Guimaras PIO)
