Stakeholders commit to safe, successful 2023 polls

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- Officials and personnel of different national government agencies (NGAs) and other stakeholders committed to strengthening multi-sectoral collaboration amid the local elections 2023.

This was during the simultaneous Nationwide Multi-Sectoral Assembly for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) held at the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) in this capital town, Oct. 16.

APPO OIC-provincial director PLTCOL Ricardo B. Jomuad, Jr. stressed that the conduct of the multi-sectoral peace assembly signifies a whole-of-the-government approach to securing peaceful and successful elections.

For her part, on behalf of Provincial Election Supervisor (PES) lawyer Salud Milagros Villanueva, Election Officer Ofelia Miciano of Barbaza town expressed optimism in the unity and strong partnership of NGAs, local government units, and civil society organizations toward the successful conduct of secure, accurate, fair, and free elections.

Miciano also underscored the crucial role of civil servants in upholding and preserving the principles of democracy, as well as in ensuring every eligible voter exercises their right to suffrage.

Uniformed and law enforcement officials lead the signing of the Statement of Commitment during the simultaneous Nationwide Multi-Sectoral Assembly for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) held at the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO), Oct. 16.

In a display of solidarity for the cause, participants in the multi-sectoral assembly signed the Commitment Board, while sectoral representatives led the ceremonial releasing of white doves, a symbol of the community’s hope for harmony in this critical time.

The assembly was attended by representatives from different government entities, such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), PNP-1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), PNP-National Support Units (NSUs), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and local media practitioners.

On the same day, unity walks and signing of the peace covenant were also held in different municipalities throughout the province, participated by government entities, multi-sectoral groups, and election candidates.

In San Jose de Buenavista, the local police estimate at least 600 aspiring barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials took part in the unity walk around town to reaffirm their commitment to credible and peaceful polls. (AGP/BPS/PIA Antique)
