Returning Zambo Sur residents benefit from DSWD’s BP2 program

PAGADIAN CITY Oct. 24 (PIA) – The Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to provide a wide array of opportunities and assistance to its eligible beneficiaries in the province.

A total of 286 internal immigrant beneficiaries from the various municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur received the said assistance out of the 350 total beneficiaries across the entire region. These internal immigrants came from various parts of the country, especially highly populated urban cities, and returned to their hometown in Zamboanga del Sur.

The DSWD Regional Field Office 9 distributed cash assistance amounting to P18,321,700.00 to nine municipalities in the province, namely; Aurora, Bayog, Dumingag, Kumalarang, Lakewood, Lapuyan, Sominot, San Miguel, and Tigbao.

Renicelle S. Perez, a 25-year-old recipient from the municipality of Tigbao, expressed her gratitude for the government’s support, which enabled her family to return to their hometown after years of residing in Bukidnon. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges, Perez made the decision to relocate back to Tigbao due to the loss of employment opportunities.

“Happy kaayo ko, as in sobra kaayo nga kalipay tungod sa programa nga BP2, natagaan mi nga pamilya ug chance nga makasukad ug balik,” she said.

(I am very happy because of the BP2 program; we have been given a chance to start again as a family.)

Meanwhile, Jia Borres, who is also a recipient of the said program from the municipality of Sominot, also conveyed her gratitude to DSWD. She shared her profound appreciation as her family plans to venture on a hog-raising livelihood. Mrs. Borres and her family opted to return back to Sominot after residing in Cebu City and availed the BP2 program of DSWD.

“Dako kayo among pasalamat sa BP2 nga gihatag sa DSWD, dako kayo ni nga opportunity para makasugod mi sa among panginabuhian nga babuyan, among paningkamotan nga mulambo pa gyud ug dili namu ni sayangan nga oportunidad nga ilang gihatag namu,” she said.

(We are very grateful for the BP2 given by the DSWD;, this is a great opportunity for us to start our hog-raising livelihood., Wwe will try to improve, and we will not waste this opportunity that they gave us.)

The BP2 program of the DSWD was enacted into law through Executive Order No. 114 in 2020, amidst the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program primarily aims to help reduce congestion among highly populated urban communities in the country while providing various assistance and opportunities to beneficiaries who decide to settle back in their original hometown.

Among the types of assistance received by the beneficiaries are the transitory family support package that ranges from P10,000 to P70,000, which will cover food and non-food items needed by the family during their transition period, and the livelihood settlement grants that serve as start-up capital in the establishment or continuity of their livelihood, which shall not exceed to P50,000.

Implemented under the department’s Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), BP2 is committed to continuously delivering the provision of necessary support to beneficiaries’ economic stability and development while providing comprehensive interventions to achieve full reintegration of beneficiaries into the community.
