DTI eyes stronger micro-retail industry with TMN program

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) looks forward to a stronger micro-retail industry in this province through the “Tatak: Matatag na Negosyo” or TMN program.

The TMN program was recently launched here to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly retailers, become future-proof, resilient, and sustainable by improving access to financing, building market linkages, and enhancing management capacity.

This program of the trade department, in partnership with business corporations, civil society organizations, and other concerned government agencies, provides a package of interventions designed for micro-stores, such as “sari-sari stores,” “carinderia,” mini-bakeries, and pop-up stalls.

First established in 2021 to assist micro-retailers amid economic difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the TMN intends to organize partners, pool resources, and exchange ideas in pursuit of business growth and development.

With the launching of the TMN program in Antique on October 6, some 25 micro-retailers identified by various Negosyo Centers (NCs) throughout the province immediately received knowledge cascades on different topics.

Select micro-retailers listen attentively during the launching in this province of the Tatak: Matatag na Negosyo or TMN program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

DTI Antique Trade and Industry Development Specialist (TIDS) Jenny May Tabalanza delivered a presentation on “How to Start and Manage a Retail Business,” while Lorena C. Navallasca, manager of PROCESS Foundation Panay, Inc., discussed basic financial management and enterprise accounting.

Acknowledging the advantages of digital entrepreneurship, participants were also briefed on online marketing strategies and virtual merchandising techniques by Risty Clent E. Aquito, Public Relations (PR) and Digital Communications Lead of the University of Antique (UA).

As a kick-off activity, DTI Antique also invited to the launching event the market merchandise distributors for micro-retailers.

Alvin Mianon, Distributor Specialist of Megasoft Hygienic Products Inc., presents to Antiqueño micro-retailers their products and services offered during the Tatak: Matatag na Negosyo or TMN program launch in Antique.

Some distributors presented their products and services such as Megasoft Hygienic Products, Inc. and the exclusive Procter and Gamble (P&G) Philippines distributor MS Panay Distribution, Inc.

Participating micro-retailers were given the opportunity to inquire, enroll in services, procure products at a low price from the distributors, and learn about different loan programs from Small Business Corporation (SB Corp).

In a statement, DTI Antique Business Development Unit (BDU) head Jenny May Tabalanza expressed hope for the expansion of the Tatak: Matatag na Negosyo to reach more micro-retailers as the program aspires to create a positive impact on the business development of MSMEs in Antique.
