CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--Recognizing the vital role of media practitioners in disseminating information to the public, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-10 conducted a Data Appreciation Seminar for media practitioners here.
PSA-10 Chief Statistical Specialist Sarah Balagbis said the seminar aims to provide media practitioners with a perspective on the products and services of PSA and in interpreting statistical data and reports that would allow them to bring to light the importance of statistics in daily lives, especially in policy and decision making.
"As part of the 34th National Statistics Month, nag-conduct mi aning Data Appreciation Seminar para masabtan sa media ang amoang mga data ug mga releases. Among intention ani is macapacitate mo [media] nga masabtan ninyo among mga data ug sakto ang inyohang pag-interpret sa atong mga data," she said.
[As part of the 34th National Statistics Month, we conducted this Data Appreciation Seminar so that the media can understand our data and releases. We intend to enable you [media] to understand and correctly interpret our data.]
Balagbis said they hope to conduct the Data Appreciation Seminar for Media Practitioners every year in recognition of the significant contribution of the media in disseminating PSA products and services, particularly on statistical data and reports.
In line with the celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month, the Philippine Statistics Authority-10 conducts a Data Appreciation Seminar for Media Practitioners to capacitate them to understand and interpret correctly PSA statistical data and releases. (DCC/PIA-10)
The seminar covered various topics, including the Labor Force Survey, Provincial Product Accounts, Price Survey, and the National Demographic and Health Survey.
After the seminar, PSA invited the participants to join the Official Statistics Quiz for Media Practitioners.
Anna Jane Duhaylungsod of DXCC-RMN was declared the quiz show champion, while Franck Rosete of Manila Bulletin and Noel Registos of Brigada FM got 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. They received plaques of recognition, cash prizes, and tokens from PSA-10 and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas during the culmination ceremony of the 34th National Statistics Month, October 27.
In an interview, Registos thanked the PSA-10 for conducting the seminar. He said it helped the media understand the reports and terminologies used by PSA. With the knowledge they acquired, he is optimistic that they can now better explain to the public the relevance of statistical data and reports. (APB/PIA-10)
