Port of Subic donates assorted Muslim books to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos

SUBIC -- The Bureau of Customs - Port of Subic, in support of the Muslim community, donated a 1x40’ container of assorted Muslim books to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos on Friday, August 13, 2021.

The said shipment was forfeited in favor of the government after an implied abandonment was issued which is subjected to disposition under Section 1139 (A) and Section 1141 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act - abandoned goods subject to disposition may be donated to another government agency or declared for official use of the Bureau.

The donation activity was in coordination with the Office of the Commissioner, the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group (AOCG), and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to the Port of Subic District Collector Maritess T. Martin and her Auction and Cargo Disposal Committee for their invaluable support and contribution to the programs of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos – North Luzon, promoting the welfare of the Muslim Filipinos in North Luzon.

District Collector Martin hopes that the donated books will further expand and provide literacy to the Muslim brothers and sisters with no access to books as well as learn more about the Holy Qur’an especially during the pandemic.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos represented by their Regional Director, Atty. Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas was very thankful for the assistance given by the the Bureau of Customs and the Port of Subic. "Please accept our appreciation for your support to our mandate in developing and preserving the culture, traditions, and well-being of the Muslim Filipinos" Atty. Macarimpas said.   (BOC)
