PASAY CITY -- The Philippines received on Saturday, August 21, another 1 million doses of procured Sinovac vaccines together with the second tranche of 260,800 Sinopharm vaccine doses donated by the Chinese government.
The Philippine Airlines aircraft carrying the vaccines landed at around 6:40 AM at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.
A total 26.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccines have so far been delivered to the country, of which 24,600,000 doses were procured by the national government.
Meanwhile, the 260,800 doses of Sinopharm vaccines complete the one million donation committed by the Chinese government.
“Malaking tulong ito sa ating mga kababayan para sa pagsalba ng mga may sakit. Lalong lalo ngayon na may Delta variant at tumataas ang kaso natin, malaking tulong itong mga dumating na vaccines,” Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said during an interview at the airport.
Almost 5 million doses of government-procured and donated COVID-19 vaccines have arrived this week.
To date, the country has received a total of 48,522,890 COVID-19 vaccines doses from different manufacturers.
Mayor was joined by Department of Health Director Ariel Valencia in receiving the Sinovac vaccines. (National Task Force Against COVID-19)
