On Jan. 14, 2022, the DOST Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC), Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation (SKPF), and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office joined hands in distributing nutribun in three barangays most affected by Typhoon Odette based on the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Siquijor assessment.

Dubbed “Bayanihan Feeding Program: By the Youth, For the Youth,” the group distributed a total of 300 pieces of nutribun to the children of barangays Caipilan, Pasihagon, and Tongo of Siquijor, Siquijor.

SKPF President Brylle Deeiah Tomarong sliced a pie from her personal money to buy juices and biscuits to compliment the nutribun.

She could not be less happier witnessing a motley of smiling and happy kids as they received the care package.

Equally, she was grateful that her office continues to be an agent in conducting a community project.

“A care-giving activity like this can eliminate stress and I hope for more collaboration with DOST for another community project,” she said.

The SK also visited an indigent, a senior citizen,  and a victim of typhoon Odette in Brgy. Songculan who showed the same expression of happiness and enthusiasm as that of the children.

One was heard saying, “Naa pa diay maluoy nako (I am happy to know there are still people who care for me)."

The effects of Typhoon Odette have brought back the spirit of Bayanihan, helping hand, and volunteerism among the youth. (PR/Mario de la Pena and Jose Aldous R. Arbon II, DOST PSTC IO)
