RDRRMC 6 member agencies prepare for Dinagyang 2023

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) 6 member agencies’ emergency preparedness and response measures are in place for the Dinagyang Festival 2023 celebration here.

The RDRRMC 6 convened, January 16, for an emergency preparedness and response meeting with the Iloilo City and Provincial government to discuss the security and emergency preparedness and response plan to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of all the revelries of the celebration.

Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Regional Operations Division chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, reported that a total of 5,552 personnel are to be deployed all throughout the City.

Of the said number, some 1,217 are from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), 2,183 are augmentation from PRO6, and the remaining 2,152 are force multipliers.

The Site Task Group Dinagyang is being led by ICPO director Police Col. Leo Batiles and under which will be the three sub-site task groups (SSTG) – Security and Peace and Order, Emergency Preparedness, and the new SSTG on Public Safety with the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office of the Iloilo City government as the lead.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) 6 holds an emergency preparedness and response meeting with Iloilo City and Province this afternoon, January 16, in line with the Dinagyang Festival 2023. Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6 Operations Section chief Melissa Banias presides the meeting, in behalf of regional director and RDRRMC 6 chairperson Jose Roberto Nuñez.

Each SSTG has various task units with specific assignments and is strategically deployed in different activity areas.

On emergency preparedness, Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ICDRRMO) Quick Response Division head Darwin Joemil Papa presented the emergency response plan for Dinagyang Festival.

PAGASA Iloilo weather specialist Ferdinand Rubin Jr. reported that the weeklong highlights of the Dinagyang Festival until January 22, 2023 will generally expect a fair weather with possibility of rainshowers or thunderstorms at the late afternoon or evening.

This includes the deployment of logistics, assets, and personnel of emergency and response providers, forces, and volunteers.

The RDRRMC Emergency Operations Center, based also in the City, will maintain a “blue alert” status for the entire festivity.

Meanwhile, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Iloilo Weather Specialist Ferdinand Rubin Jr. reported that the entire duration of the Dinagyang Festival until January 22 is expected to have a generally fair weather.


But, according to him, localized rain showers or thunderstorms are to be expected in the late afternoon or evening.

To date, apart from local spectators and foreign tourists, also expected to grace the highlights of this annual feast in honor of Señor Sto. Niño or the child Jesus are a number of foreign dignitaries including ambassadors and consuls and several national officials. (JBG/FRG/PIA6)
