CEBU CITY, Cebu, June 27 (PIA) -- After a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 140 public information and tourism officers in Central Visayas are set to attend the 25th Regional Association of Development Information Officers (RADIO-7) Convention on June 28 to 30 in Cebu.
This year’s convention carries the theme “Strengthening Digital Information for Sustainable Tourism Development Towards Economic Recovery'' which aims to revitalize the tourism industry by strengthening the collaboration among the public information officers (PIOs) in exploiting the digital spaces in promoting and showcasing the tourism wonders in Central Visayas.
On June 28, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Jose A. Torres will serve as the keynote speaker who will talk about the “Strategic Communications for Government Communicators in the Age of Technology.”
Riza Marie S. Macaibay of the Department of Tourism Region 7 is expected to deliver the keynote address on June 29 with the topic: “Digitization Initiatives to Foster Tourism Growth Opportunities and the Role of Public information officers (PIOs) and Tourism Officers."
On the other hand, Assistant Secretary Patricia Kayle S. Martin, Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary for Digital Media and Communications, will be the guest speaker on June 29.
She is expected to talk about “Harnessing Digital Information to Communicate the Government’s Agenda for a stronger Philippines."
A tour in Lapu-Lapu City is set on the third day of the convention.
This year’s regional convention is hosted by the Cebu Association of City and Municipal Public Information Officers (CAOCAMPIO).
The City Government of Lapu-lapu, Mandaue, Cebu, Danao, League of Munipalities of the Philippines, Municipalities of Tuburan, Department of Tourism, CCLEX, Aboitiz, Globe, Smart Communications and other institutions from both public and private sectors have partnered with the CAOCAMPIO for the event.
RADIO7 is an umbrella organization of five associations of PIOs in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquiijor.
The government information associations organized by the PIA in the provinces take turns in hosting the annual regional convention.
