CEBU CITY, Cebu, June 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT-7) presented their digitization initiatives in improving tourism growth opportunities in the region during the 25th Regional Association of Development Information Officers (RADIO-7) Convention at Mandaue City, Cebu on June 29.
DOT-7 will focus on improving tourism infrastructure and accessibility, enhancement of the tourist experience, cohesive and comprehensive digitalization and connectivity, and equalization of tourism product development and promotion.
According to DOT-7 Senior Tourism Operations Officer Riza Marie Macaibay, DOT-7 will continue the diversification of its portfolio through multidimensional tourism and maximize domestic and international tourism.
The tourism department will also strengthen tourism governance through close collaborations with national and local stakeholders, said Macaibay.
She urged public information and tourism officers in the region to maximize their role as government communicators to boost tourism development.
Macaibay said a key element in building a sustainable tourism growth within the local government units is the sharing of relevant and accurate tourism-related information to the public.
Over 100 public information and tourism officers in Central Visayas joined the RADIO-7 Convention this year which resumed after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's three-day gathering carried the theme "Strengthening Digital Information For Sustainable Tourism Development Towards Economic Recovery."
It was highlighted by talks from Philippine Information Agency Director-General Usec. Jose Torres Jr., Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary for Digital Media Communications Patricia Kayle Martin, Negros Oriental Gov. Manuel "Chaco" Sagarbarria, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Cebu City Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, and SunStar Digital Media Director Mildred Galarpe.
