SOCCSKSARGEN sets sight at 7.6% GRDP increase by 2028

The Regional Development Council (RDC) XII launched Thursday, July 6, the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Development Plan 2023-2028 (SOX-RDP 2023-2028) at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center in Koronadal City.

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- By 2028, SOCCSKSARGEN will be transformed into a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient region, according to projections of the SOCCKSARGEN Regional Development Plan 2023-2028 (SOX-RDP 2023-2028).

This should translate to an increase of 6.1 to 7.6% gross regional domestic product (GRDP) from the 2022 rate of 5.2% and a decrease of 4.0 to 4.5% in unemployment rate from the present level of 5.3%.

On Thursday, July 6, the Regional Development Council (RDC XII), along with national line agencies, local government units, private sector partners and other stakeholders presented to the public the SOX-RDP 2023-2028 in an event at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center, this city.

"The contents of the RDP mirror that of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), which significantly translates the 8-point socioeconomic agenda of PBBM into strategies, outcomes, measurable indicators, and proposed policy recommendations and priority legislative agenda," NEDA XII Director Teresita Socorro Ramos explained.

"Our goal by 2028 is to become a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient region and how can we achieve this objective at the end of PBBM’s term."

Director Ramos said, the region expects to grow from 5.5% to 7.5% in GRDP from 2023-2025 and from 6.0% to 7.6% in the final three years of the plan (2026-2028).

In terms of creating jobs, SOCCSKSARGEN aims to lower the unemployment rate from 5.3% in 2021 to only 4.0% by 2028.

"With the efforts of the government in ensuring the supply of food, we hope to contain the inflation rate to a manageable 2.0 to 4.0%," she added.

Regarding inclusive development, the region's focus is that the growth of the economy would trickle down to the disadvantaged sector and the poor segments of the population, thus, we expect to reduce poverty incidence to 16% from the 27.3% data recorded in 2021.

To achieve these goals, key strategies of the SOX-RDP 2023-2028 include modernizing agriculture, revitalizing industry, reinvigorating services, promoting and improving life-long learning and education, boosting health, ensuring livable communities, ensuring food security and proper nutrition, strengthening social protection and increasing income-earning ability of the workforce.

RDC XII approved and adopted the 2023-2028 RDP through Resolution No. 13, series of 2023 during its 80th meeting on March 23, 2023.

Meanwhile, Cotabato Governor and RDC XII chairperson Emmylou "Lala" Taliño-Mendoza said the  implementation of the RDP, being a comprehensive and inclusive socio-economic plan for Region XII, is essential to the attainment of Ambisyon Natin 2040 for a “matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay para sa lahat.”

"This RDP will pave the way for the region’s sustained recovery from the COVID19 pandemic and other disasters and enable us to have an accelerated socioeconomic transformation for a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Region XII," Gov. Mendoza said.  (PIA SOCCSKSARGEN)
