Antique kicks off 34th NSM celebration

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Province of Antique launched this year’s celebration of National Statistics Month (NSM) on Oct. 2 with various activities highlighting the importance of statistics in various development endeavors.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Juliana O. Cepe, in a meeting of the Provincial Statistical Coordinating Committee (PSCC), emphasized the importance of statistics in the development of the province, noting that the programs and projects could target the deserving beneficiaries with proper use of data and statistics.


To highlight the government programs and activities for this year’s celebration, a Statistical Exhibit was launched by the PSCC at the Old Capitol Lobby that will run until the end of October 2023.

Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, Provincial Statistics Officer Randy Tacogdoy and Assistant Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Bien Nallos led the ribbon-cutting and launching program with employees of the provincial government and members of the PSCC.

During the program, Tacogdoy reiterated the importance of statistics in development undertakings by using reliable data and statistics in all government programs and projects.

He also lauded the support of the Provincial Government of Antique for the allotment of P100,000.00 for the 34th NSM celebration.

On the part of vice governor Denosta, he called for the participation of the municipal government units in the observance of the statistics month to promote the use of reliable statistics at the local level.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Planning and Development Office received a Plaque of Appreciation from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 6 as an outstanding partner in its statistical advocacy activities during the appreciation ceremony of PSA 6 recently held in Iloilo City.


Other activities for the month-long celebration include a statistical quiz contest both for secondary and college levels, an online contest for poster-making both for students and government agencies, statistical infographics for Local Civil Registrars, and radio programs with the Philippine Information Agency and Provincial Information Office, among others.

The NSM celebration is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 647,  declaring the month of October as the annual observance of NSM.

This year's theme is "Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines." (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from Interns)
