CEBU CITY, Cebu, October 18 (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Region 7 held its Regional Elimination Quiz Bee in search of a representative from Central Visayas for the 3rd PSA Quiz Bee National Finals in Metro Manila.
The quiz bee is one of the activities conducted by PSA-7 in celebration of National Statistics Month (NSM).
This year will be the 34th NSM in pursuance to the Presidential Proclamation No. 647 declaring the month of October every year as the National Statistics Month (NSM).
“The primary reason for the conduct of the Quiz Bee is to instill awareness on the importance of statistics," said PSA-7 Supervising Statistical Specialist Engr. Felixberto Sato, Jr.
Participants of the quiz bee are the members of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) of the Central Visayas Regional Statistics Committee (RSC).
“This will be an avenue for the RSC members to know about the mandate of the PSA and inculcate among these agencies that they are part of the stakeholders of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS),” Sato added.
The champion will represent the Central Visayas RSC during the national finals.

Participating agencies
Edwin Monceda of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-7) emerged as the champion, with Peter Gamaliel Semblante of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-7) as the second prize winner, followed by Olive Jade Gavan of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Visayas Field Office as the third prize winner.
The other participants were Maria Ivora Lapore of Bohol Island State University (BISU), Millard Milano of Department of Science and Technology (DOST-7), Deab Eltanal of Department of Health (DOH-7), Hector Villamora of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7), Harold Longakit of Department of Energy (DOE-7), Baby Ann Damgo of Cebu Technological University (CTU), Lisette Alodia Aures of Department of Budget and Management (DBM-7), and Jennifer Piloton of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7).
Senior Statistical Specialist Cayylord D. Niala said he is looking forward to increasing the participation rate in the succeeding Regional Elimination Quiz Bee.
Coverage of the Quiz Bee includes Republic Act (RA) 10625 or the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013, Civil Registration, RA 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act, and RA 11315 or An Act Establishing A Community-Based Monitoring System and Appropriating Funds, Vital Statistics, and current events.
