NGCP assistant vice president for Visayas Systems Operations Christian Ereño during the Power 101 session with Antique and Capiz media presents the reminders on keeping the powerlines safe.

He likewise underscored the importance of protecting the NGCP power lines as the highway of electricity so the distribution utilities will have a stable power supply for the consumers.

Planting of trees near the transmission structures is strictly prohibited as trees may tangle with power lines as well as build fires under or near the structures.

Building houses or any structure under the transmission lines and climbing the structures are not allowed for these may cause accidents and electrocution.

NGCP also cautioned the public not to park their vehicles near or under the power lines and to refrain from excavating the land near or under the foundation of transmission towers.

Other activities prohibited under or near the power lines are playing with kites, targeting insulators, putting up flaglets or clotheslines, passing through the structures with long sticks or any object that might come in contact with the lines, and securing pets in transmission towers.

Ereño stressed that these actions may cause accidents and power interruptions so these must be reported to the NGCP immediately.

In preparation for the El Niño phenomenon with forecasts to affect the country later this year and early part of 2024, NGCP Senior District Manager D4 Panay for Operations and Maintenance Lazaro dela Cruz assured the consumers that they have initiated preparations in case it will hit the country.

However, he emphasized that the role of NGCP is only the transmission side, while the generation of supply is in the hands of power-generating utilities.
