Polomolok Fire Station bags firefighting, rescue skills in fire olympics tilt

POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato -- The team from Polomolok Fire Station (PFS) displayed a solid performance during the 1st Gov. Tamayo Provincial Fire and Rescue Assessment 2023 Barangay Fire Olympics to capture the overall championship cap, sweeping out other competing fire stations on April 19 at SMRAA Complex, Koronadal City.

The said competition, organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection-South Cotabato Provincial Fire Office was participated in by 11 fire stations representing the municipalities of South Cotabato Province, including Koronadal City.

PFS dominated the Fire Ground Search and Rescue and Firefighting Challenge (BFP category) and emerged as overall champion, followed by Sto. Nino Fire Station in second place ahead of Tantangan Fire Station at third.

“Congratulations sa tanang participants nato! Snappy! Didn't have an ounce of doubt sa inyuha. Galing!,” PFS Fire Marshal Inspector Lindon P. Narvaza told the winners and other participants.

Fire Marshal Narvaza was the chief tactician behind the successful title bid.

Meanwhile, in Fire Extinguisher and Bucket Relay (Barangay category), Barangay Lamba of Banga sealed the top spot trailed by Barangay Colongulo of Surallah at second place and Barangay Poblacion of Sto. Niño in third.   

Barangay Lamba, and Lapuz of Norala bagged the Best Bucket Relay and Best Fire Extinguisher Relay, respectively.

The competition was an assessment of the participants' knowledge and skills in firefighting and rescue operations, and to promote camaraderie and solidarity among neighboring barangays in times of emergency, and raise awareness among the public. (SFO1 Philip C Chan/BFP-PFS)
