BUTUAN CITY -- The family is the basic unit of the society. When every family is able to create a good foundation and close family ties, it gives a good impact to the community.
This was emphasized by the Regional Development Council - Regional Gender and Development Committee (RDC-RGADC) Caraga during the conduct of Women's Summit in Butuan City, participated by the different government agencies and partner stakeholders in the region.
According to RGADC chairperson and Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Caraga Regional Director Alexander Makinano, the family reflects one's upbringing, hence, becoming one's first teacher at home. “What we experience in our family may also reflect in our actions and how we treat other people. That’s why it is very important that parents guide their children well and inculcate in them good behaviors and right conduct, that they will grow with love and respect,” he said.
In this way, he said, domestic violence and gender-based violence could be prevented. “The government continues to pour in various programs that give opportunities to the women and men making them capacitated and able to provide their families’ daily needs."Agusan del Norte Provincial Governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante, who served as the keynote speaker of the said summit, also highlighted that love and respect for each other start within the family.
“It really starts within the family. How we show our children the right way of treating other people and the basic lessons in life that they must know. Let us show our kids that they have equal opportunities to excel in life and that they are able to exercise their right to choose their field of interest. We may have different cultures, yet we all know what is just and fair for everyone,” bared Gov. Amante.
Meanwhile, in time with the Caraga Women's Summit, the RGADC Caraga also recognized successful women in the region led by the following agencies:
1) Commission on Population and Development: Most Outstanding Barangay Population Volunteers
2) Department of Agriculture: Outstanding Rural Women
3) Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Awards
4) RGADC: Recognition of former/retired GAD focal persons.
The said summit has three parts: registration and opening of government services booths; program proper; and a learning session on empowering women through knowledge on government's programs and services.
Alongside this activity, the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) also provided free health services to various stakeholders.
Also, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga headed by Regional Director Venus Garcia took time to celebrate the International Women's Day in the workplace.
Dir. Garcia highlighted the great contribution of all the employees who reliably help the Agency deliver even beyond the expected outputs through unwavering teamwork. “PIA Caraga will continue to advocate for a VAWC-free work environment, safe from any form of abuse and violence, and promote gender equality and women empowerment,” she underscored.
