VILLAVERDE, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently gave assistance to Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and ‘Tanods’ (village guards) in this town.
The 158 BNS' and Barangay Tanods received the assistance in recognition of their plight as community frontliners in the government’s efforts and response on COVID-19.
Vice governor Jose Tomas, Sr. said the distribution of assistance to BNS' and village guards was implemented through the issuance of a DSWD memorandum including them as frontline health workers in the COVID-19 health emergency response of the government as recommended by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“We thank the DSWD, DILG and the LGU of Villaverde for this assistance to our BNS' and barangay Tanods. This will help them in supporting their families in this time of COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Tomas said he hopes that other local government units will also be given the same assistance from the DSWD soon. (MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
