MassKara Fest 2022 generally peaceful – PRO6

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 said that the recently concluded MassKara Festival 2022 is generally peaceful.

PRO6, in a press statement issued by Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Mary Grace Socorro D. Borio, noted that the peaceful outcome of the celebration is due to their intensified anti-criminality drive and public safety operations.

It added that “the presence of the policemen and other security personnel from other law enforcement agencies and peacekeeping volunteers of Bacolod City, and the established chokepoints at all entrance and exit points also contributed.”

Police Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco, PRO6 regional director, said that they recorded zero major crime incidents during the month-long celebration, citing the utilization of a whole-of-nation approach in securing the world-renowned festivity.

“We have involved other national government agencies through the different Sub Task Groups to readily use their personnel and other resources if needed. This goes to show na kapag tulong-tulong tayo at ginagawa natin ng tama ang iniatas na responsibilidad sa atin, kayang-kaya nating gawing mapayapa, hindi lamang ang MassKara Festival, but as a peaceful country as well,” said Francisco.

He added that this achievement can be attributed to the collaboration, coordination, cooperation, and personal commitment of all members of the Task Group MassKara Festival 2022 as well as the active participation and mobilization of stakeholders, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATS), and other force multipliers.

To note, the celebration, with the tagline “Balik Yuhum” or bring back the smile, was highly anticipated after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the report, the 8-focus crimes decreased by 38 percent from October 1 to 23 during the celebration compared to the same period in 2019, or 21 incidents down to 13 this year.

Based on the comparative statistics of the 8-focus crimes, theft with the highest crime recorded in 2019 with 10 lowered to five this year; physical injury with five in 2019 to only two; robbery with three in 2019 to only one in the same period this year; rape with two each in 2019 and 2022; and murder with one incident in 2019 to none this year.

However, PRO6 registered two homicide cases and one motor napping during this year’s MassKara.

Aside from this, the strict implementation of special laws and suspension of the Permit to Carry Firearm Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) were also enforced during the entire period.

With this, Francisco expressed his gratitude to the general public, local media, PRO6 personnel, and other law
