MANILA -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continue to provide road network infrastructure towards revitalizing the economy of Marawi City.
Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the rehabilitation of Marawi Transcentral Road Phase 1 under a grant aid program of the Government of Japan has provided better access to basic services, increase trade, and contribute to the progressing economic activities in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.
Two (2) of the three (3) contract packages (CP) for this Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-grant project were completed with the remaining package on final finishing touches involving ancillary or drainage works target to be finished this end of August 2021, Secretary Villar added.
According to Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain, the 18.97 kilometer Marawi Transcentral Road Phase 1 is first among the significant projects in the government’s comprehensive plan for the reconstruction and development for a Greater Marawi prepared on the instruction of Secretary Villar by the DPWH UPMO Team.
The design and build of Bacong-Poona-Marantao-Marawi Road, GMA Terminal Access, Marawi-Cadre-New Capitol, Marcos Boulevard, and Idarus Road Section with a total length of 5.45 km under CP 1-B was completed by Al Hussein Construction/N.B. Salbo Construction (joint venture) while road network capacity improvement for the MSU-GMA Road and Lumindong-Amaipakpak Avenue under CP 2 with a total length of 3.90 km was earlier completed by Kouzbary Builders.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary Sadain in his inspection at the Marawi Transcentral Road has instructed the consultant Woodfields Consultants Inc. and the joint venture contractors Unimasters Conglomeration Inc./MMA Achievers Construction & Development Corporation/CDH Construction/ Flying Seven Construction to work together in order to meet the target full completion of all the remaining civil works for the 9.41 km Bacong-Iligan-Marawi Road Section under CP 1A this month.
